Photoshoot information and prep for your photoshoot

Jess Wilkins Photography

Hopefully, you have booked me as you love my style which is simple and natural – I believe this works best to get timeless images.  Below is a brief guide on what to wear/bring.

All the information below applies to all types of sessions because my advice is simple, wear what you all feel comfy in and loosely coordinate. If you want the images to go on the wall, wear colours that compliment the decor of your house e.g white, greys, pastels and neutrals are ideal.

I feel it’s best not to get too stressed, or buy lots of new clothes, below are a few ideas.

Babies

Young babies are best dressed in simple snug clothes like a simple baby grow. Such as a plain vest, rompers, dungarees, leggings/ jeans anything that will not bunch near the baby’s face.

We could do a whole gallery in a plain vest so please don’t worry about needing a whole wardrobe of items. For a newborn shoot, you only need a vest and if you have a favourite outfit, hat or blanket bring them too.

If your newborn, baby, or toddler has any teddies, blankets, keepsakes you wish to include in the shoot please bring them along too!

 Siblings

It is important siblings feel comfy, if you have plain tops (whites, greys, creams etc) this is ideal. Logos & character tops can distract or draw the eye but looks sweet on their own and personalise your shoot.

 Family

Try to loosely co-ordinate, this is your shoot wear what makes you happy and comfy. My backdrops are grey and white which works well with all colours.

Dads: good ideas are v neck t-shirt, polo shirts, jeans, chinos (no large logos or football/sports tops)

Mums:  Many mums choose to wear a top with a little cardigan, shirts, dresses honestly it’s what you feel happiest in!  Please bring some clips if your hair is prone to falling onto your face.

Maternity

Maternity shoots are fun and relaxed, the session is about what you want from it and how comfortable you feel tight fitting clothing works best to show off your bump. So wear what you feel good in. I have 1 floaty gown, lacey shawl, and chunky cream cardigans at the studio to borrow. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/norwichphotos/maternity-jess-wilkins-photography/

Cake smash

Same as above but if you have a special outfit/s for the shoot please bring them along, feel free to bring balloons etc too. I have the cutest white wooden number 1 and wooden letters ONE which compliments a birthday shoot.

Newborn

I do not promise any sleepy poses, I am totally baby-led and go with the flow this makes for a stress-free experience and a happy baby.  Don’t worry if your baby does not sleep there are lots of images we can do with an inquisitive and awake baby. I will have the studio warm to keep newborns snug, wearing layers can be useful for parents so you don’t get too warm.

If the baby likes a dummy/ or has one please bring a dummy (just in case), nappies, and snacks for you all. If you are bringing a sibling/s who you feel may get restless after a while. There are two parks nearby, pets at home and Tesco’s, if you have a relative to collect them you may wish to organise this or one of you can pop out. I have plenty of wooden toys they can play with WIFI for pads etc.

If you need some ideas please check out my Pinterest boards here, but honestly, the best prep is to bring snacks, milk/ water some spare outfits, and to not worry – I am baby and child-led meaning we work around their needs and what I feel they are comfy and happy doing, be prepared for lots of cuddles and kisses. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/norwichphotos/parents-and-families-ideas-for-studio-outfits-neut/

My studio is located at:

198 Blithewood Gardens , Sprowston , Norwich NR78PP

You can park anywhere outside the green and on the grassy area alongside my house, I am the third green along on the right. My house has 2 red doors.

Sat Nav will take you behind my house so just turn around and park up! I have a puppy he loves children (just barks loud initially at the door ) but is kept out the way at all times.
